Design Competition Winner!
On 5th July 2011 a judging panel consisting of Tim Southwell (Editor of PTA Magazine), Tim Hutchinson (children’s author and illustrator), Allison Parkes (Communications Manager at EBP) and Mike Berry (EBP’s Support Your School Program Manager) met to choose a winner along with 5 runners up for our design a character competition. With nearly 2000 entries to choose from and after much deliberation and discussion a decision was finally reached…
…Congratulations to Matthew Hill (age 10) from Newton Poppleford School, the winner of our design a character competition.
Matthew's winning design ‘Recyclops’ captured exactly what we were looking for, incorporating recycling and environmental concern with a vibrant exciting character.
Matthew introduced his character to us as “…my action super-hero ‘Recyclops’ who is going to save the world from becoming a big heap of rubbish.” He based his character on a Cyclops from Greek Mythology, a subject he had been studying and enjoying at school. Matthew wrote “I liked the fact Cyclops have these amazing powers and can put them to use in recycling various products which otherwise would be destroyed and sent to landfill”.
Matthew’s winning design won him an Apple i-Pad 2 and his school £1000 in prize money.

5 runner’s up prizes of a digital camera for their school and a £15 Amazon gift voucher for the pupil, were awarded to the following designs:
 |
Alice Burton, Beverley Minster Primary School, age 11 |
 |
Ceri Taylor, Woodhouse Middle School, age 8 |
 |
Farid Bello, Thomas Arnold Primary School, age 6 |
 |
Jason Bennet, Sandbach School, age 13 |
 |
Kevin Williams, Halesbury School. |
Thank you so much to all those who took part. It was great to view all the entries and see the hard work which had gone into so many pieces. We are only sorry that they couldn’t all be winners!
